Thriller mood board
The sixth sense is a supernatural thriller.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VG9AGf66tXM
In this film there is a young boy who is visited by the supernatural world e.g. ghosts who stalk and leave him to afraid to talk to anyone about it. This film also includes themes of a psychological thriller as the boy is mentally stressed at what to do because nobody can understand his situation except his psychologist. his fears shown when he asks his psychologist at 2.04 "please make them leave" this shows how stressed the ghosts have made him because he says it in a hushed urgent tone. It may be hushed, to show he is trying to whisper so that the ghosts can't hear him. A that would put him in trouble for letting anyone know what he knows and can see. It has the typical thriller convention, in which fast cuts and flashes are used to create discomfort in the viewer, which helps create a large amount of suspense surrounding the different situations displayed in the trailer, something that also adds to this is the lack of lighting in some of the scenes displayed, as at 1:49 the surroundings are very dark which connotes mystery and also creates suspense as it is the fear of the unknown.
INSIDIOUS THE LAST KEY - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acQyrwQyCOk
Insidious is a mystery thriller about a woman trying to figure out what's going on in her home. High angle was used in this trailer (0:15) to make the figure that it's looking down on seem vulnerable and powerless. In the trailer, there were many jump scenes (0:11) (0:56) and this is to bring out the thriller in the whole movie. If the trailer lacked in jump scares, the movie wouldn't be classified as mystery thriller. In the trailer, the setting was mainly in the haunted house and the props were things like flashlights to have the ability to see in the dark (0:41). The characters wore mainly casual clothes that people wear everyday (0:21) however the people locked up (1:40) wore very old and dirty clothes to suggest they are not normal and brings out the attention that they are inhumane. The make-up of the villain (2:16) was very frightening and this is effective because it gives the audience a scare as its a mystery thriller. The type of facial expressions that are shown in mystery thrillers are screaming faces (0:17), confusion (0:53), fright (1:12) and many more. . Colour carries certain connotations which may add meaning to a certain scene. It may add a particular mood or feeling for example when a character was using a torch to see if anything was in the basement (0:41), the darkness of the scene made the audience feel uncomfortable and makes them think a jump scare scene may appear.
The type of music used in a mystery thriller are screaming sounds (0:15), violin instrumental build up (0:41) and many more. These are used in thriller movies to help the audience understand the mood of the characters and hint a significant part of the film. It often starts off as a slow pace then builds up to make the shots more dramatic for the audience.
